Alan Faneca to Announce Steelers Draft Pick
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Fame offensive lineman Alan Faneca will announce the team’s second round draft pick at the 2023 NFL Draft in Kansas City, the club announced on Wednesday.

Faneca will announce the Steelers’ second-round pick. The Steelers currently have two second-round selections for Friday’s second day of the draft, picking at No. 32 and No. 49. He’ll be attending the draft with his son, Burton Faneca.

“It’s always nice to get back in and be a part of anything NFL related, anything Steelers related,” Faneca said to Steelers.com. “It’s fun to step back into that world a little bit. And I’m bringing my son, Burton, with me. It’s nice to really share those moments with my kids who weren’t around much at all when I was playing. He’s been asking lots of questions just randomly in the car. It shows me he’s been thinking about it. He’s excited. He loves to get back and be a part of it. To see that excitement and to be able to share with him gets me excited.”

Faneca played guard for the Steelers from 1998-2007 after being selected by the team in the first round of the 1998 NFL Draft out of LSU. Faneca was one of the most dominant offensive linemen of his era, and was chosen to participate in nine Pro Bowls and was an eight-time All-Pro. He is a member of the NFL’s 2000s All-Decade Team and won Super Bowl XL with the Steelers. Faneca was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio in 2021.

Could the Steelers be looking at another top interior linemen in the 2023 NFL Draft? The team has been linked to several day two options, including Florida guard O’Cyrus Torrence, Minnesota center John Michael Schmitz, TCU guard Steve Avila and North Dakota State guard Cody Mauch, all of which came to Pittsburgh for a pre-draft visit.
