Giants to add veteran QB in free agency

The New York Giants had a very busy first day of free agency, focusing on adding big pieces to an offensive line that caused them plenty of issues last season. The New Yorkers aren't stopping there and have signed one player who might be protected by this offensive line next season, making the first addition to their quarterback room this offseason.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Giants are agreeing to a deal with veteran QB Drew Lock

Adam Schefter adds that the deal will be for one year and will pay Lock $5 million.

Following a tumultuous 2023 season full of uncertainties at the quarterback position, the Giants appear to be ready to start fresh. Daniel Jones hasn't been the star they believed he would be after the 2022 season and the front office is now looking at options to address the quarterback situation.

Recent reports suggest they could trade up for a quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft or see who is available after the first five overall picks in a stacked class for offensive players.

Ever since Eli Manning got past his prime, the Giants haven't had the success they had in the late 2000s and early 2010s. This offseason can put them in a privileged position for the present and the future in the complex NFC East.

Despite losing Saquon Barkley and Xavier McKinney in free agency to the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers, respectively, the front office got to work and already added several pieces for next season.

Jon Runyan, Jermaine Eluemunor, Devin Singletary and Brian Burns were the additions before Lock agreed to his one-year deal. All these names make their fans dream about a bounce-back season and many years of competitiveness.

Lock spent the 2023 season with the Seattle Seahawks, playing in four games, completing 48 passes for 543 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

It's still unclear if Lock will be a backup or will have the chance to compete for the starting spot, but this is a solid addition to the Giants roster.
